Getting to know me!

I’m Aoife and I’m 19 years old and this is my blog about my life.

So here is a little about me:

  • I’m from Dublin in Ireland
  • I love languages and study French with Business at university
  • My favourite sport is running (obviously) and I also love orienteering and anything active.
  • Relaxation is important too and I read a lot of books (usually books that have a target audience of around 15 years old because I love a good YA book!)
  • I eat sooo much chocolate and I love anything sweet
  • Because of this I am always hyper and giddy and doing silly things (trying to jump over walls, doing crazy dancing etc, etc)
  • My favourite clothes are a comfy pair of running leggings but I’ll dress up if needs be because I really do like fashion
  • I hardly ever wear makeup – I really just can’t be bothered but I do love to experiment with it

I believe life is all about balance.  I train five times a week plus strength sessions but I also fit in nights out and socialising with my friends.  And studying for my degree of course (priorities!!!)

That’s it for now as I think I have shared enough weird facts about myself.

Stay tuned for more!

My Running Journey

I read once that after walking, running is the most natural things humans can do.  Even before I was properly into running as a sport, like most other children, I would run every opportunity I got.  Whether it was running around the house (much to my parent’s annoyance), playing chasing in the yard at school, even though running was banned in school (!) or gallivanting around the Phoenix Park.

I was never a fast runner, but my dad ran and still does so I joined my local athletics club at the age of 9 or thereabouts.  I left after a while but kept doing sports like hockey, swimming, and dancing. However, I returned to running when I was 15 and have stuck with it ever since.

I train with my local athletics club, and with my university athletics club. I am a middle distance athlete but I don’t have a preferred distance. I dabble in everything; from 800m on the track to cross country and orienteering.  I even once did a six-hour mountain orienteering race!

I love orienteering and the element of adventure in it, although my favourite discipline is Sprint orienteering which takes place in urban areas.  It is fast and furious and a little tamer than forest or mountain orienteering!

Running gave me and still gives me such a thrill.  There’s nothing like the feeling of running fast and strong or the high that comes after a run.  In this blog I plan to document my running and orienteering adventures.  I have so many thoughts to share about my running journey all waiting to be told.
